From Changing American Families

The essay by Judy Root Aulette, brought into sharp focus the different way classes interact within and out of their own group. Growing up it is known that different people live different ways; however this article shows new perspectives about groups that may have not been considered or studied as much. It was interesting to learn about working class families both white and black, and the reliance on extended family from both groups. In the case of black working families, as referenced in The Flats, the umbrella of resources, such as food, money, and shelter, stretched out to not only family, but community members as well. The recent immigrant families that we are now seeing indicate that we still desire the same securities for our families today, and our willingness to do whatever it takes to make that happen.
